It's very difficult holding your head up high when your wife seems to outshine, outperform and generally outclass you in so much of the things you do!! The female David Watts - type person i am married to (apologies to the readers who have not listened to the single of the same name by The Jam) last summer raised thousands of pounds for a famous London childrens hospital by cycling in near 40 degree heat from Paris to London. She suggested that doing something similar might be good for my soul, not to mention my middle-aged spread; so being a typical bloke I picked up the gauntlet! Those of you who know me personally will immediately understand that I just had to raise the bar to try to prove that I am not actually a worthless lump, so not content with The "Do a few miles on a Sunday Cycle Challenge" or The "Cycle to work for a week Challenge" I felt compelled to go for The Big One: Lands End to John O'Groats. Nearly 1000 miles over 12 days in May. When you sponsor me, as I hope you will, please remember that the last time I got on a push bike was to deliver Express & Star Newspapers (on paper round 5a from Jenks Road Stars News Shop in Wombourne) some 25 years ago! Well anyway I decided if I were to take the plunge I may as well raise some money for a good cause and there was only one choice for me; Compton Hospice, who will be the deserving recipients of your kind sponsorship. They do an absolutely fantastic job and I urge you all to dig as deep as you can for them. At the time of writing (April 07) I am some 36 weeks into my 40 week training program and I have learned all about cadence, granny cogs, honking, and carb -loading (this is my favourite bit as It means eating a lot of pasta ,rice, sugar and such like) I fear this part of my training is going a little too well but at least I am getting regular exercise to boot. Two weeks ago the three amigos completed a coast to coast cycle of nearly 170 miles in 2 days – navigating The Lake District, The Pennines & The North Yorkshire Moors – it was very gruelling but hopefully will put us in good stead for the 12 days we will undertake next month. Please give generously, your support means the world to me and the kind people at Compton Hospice Thanks for reading Adrian Baugh
